Football Players
Football, whether you play a full 11-a-side 90 minute game or the more explosive 5 a side game requires good levels of fitness and agility to allow players to perform at their best.
Outfield players are constantly on the go, moving into space or running with or without the ball, so without fitness even the most skilled footballer in the world will not be able to compete. However, most players who are not lucky enough to have their pre-season training laid on for them by their club, start the season completely unprepared and end up desperate to be subbed after twenty minutes of the first game of the season!
Fitness for football is multidimensional. The complete player will be able to display good cardiovascular fitness, explosive acceleration, good speed, the ability and stamina to maintain speed throughout the game, good muscular strength and balance and high levels of co-ordination, agility and flexibility. The pre-season period is essential for building a base level of fitness which will then be developed into sport specific fitness throughout the first few months of the season during club based sessions.
