Self-Defence masterclass at Hillsborough Leisure Centre
Become streetwise, stay safe! Is the message from the self-defence one day masterclass at Hillsborough Leisure Centre this summer.
Under the guidance of skilled trainer Graeme Summerfield independent teens aged 12-16 will learn how to use their own power to take care of their safety and well-being.
Leading up to the exciting masterclass on August 5th the centre will be holding a FREE taster session on Tuesday 27th May providing a unique opportunity to sample the masterclass course. The taster session will be held 10am-11am, booking in advance is required by contacting the centre to reserve your place. The dynamic self-defence classes will coach youngsters how to escape from grabs, holds, chokes and strangles and identify the body’s key weapons. Along with teaching the physical aspects of self-defence the class will also provide information on date-rape, how to use personal space and help in becoming streetwise.
Jayne Naylor, Programming & Development manager at Hillsborough Leisure Centre said ‘It is important for children to be aware how to avoid problem situations and to learn how to protect themselves. The classes also offer piece of mind for worried parents concerned about the welfare of their children as they become more independent’
The self-defence masterclass is just one of a range of sports activity camps running at the award winning centre this summer; Along with the popular Mad Dog & Lil Pup’s activity camps, new to the venues summer activity schedule will be football, basketball and trampolining camps.
