Hillsborough Leisure centre named best in the country for third consecutive year!

leisure centre has proved it’s simply the best by scooping the UK Centre of the Year title for the third year running.
Hillsborough Leisure Centre completed the remarkable national awards hat-trick last night (September 26) at the Fitness Industry Association (FIA) FLAME Awards 2007.
FLAME, which stands for Fitness, Leadership And Management Excellence, is the Fitness Industry’s gold standard by which the country’s leading facilities are judged.
The centre, which is managed by Sheffield International Venues (SIV), also won the highly sought after accolade in 2005 and 2006.

collected the title at a gala dinner ceremony at the NEC in
Birmingham
in front of hundreds of delegates and leading industry figures.
Said Richard: “We’re thrilled to have been named Centre of the Year for the third consecutive year. The FLAME Awards are very highly contested and are the industry equivalent of the Oscars so it’s a phenomenal achievement to have completed a hat-trick of titles.
“The awards act as a national benchmark for leisure centre’s up and down the country and they are an important yardstick for judging and maintaining industry standards.
“As a venue we’re constantly striving to provide the best possible facilities and service and lead the sector and we’re delighted that this has been recognised. We’re always looking for ways to raise the bar even higher and help drive the industry forward.
“Hillsborough Leisure Centre is in the heart of the community and meets the needs of centre users of all ages and abilities and their satisfaction is paramount to us. We’re delighted with the positive feedback we’ve had and hope to increase it even further.”
Every year, over 6,000 health clubs and leisure centres across the country are invited to compete for recognition as the industry's best. Now in its 13th year, the awards attract a broad cross section of organisations - from large chains to smaller independent operators and leisure centres.
The Penistone Road venue fought off stiff competition from fellow finalists Fareham Leisure Centre, near
Southampton
, and Guildford Spectrum Energy Level Gym and Spa.
Cllr Tim Rippon, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Culture and Planning at Sheffield City Council, said: “The continued national success of Hillsborough Leisure Centre is not only great news for the local community but the region as a whole.
“Regular exercise is a crucial part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and for the people of

to have access to such fantastic facilities on their doorstep can only help them achieve that.

has a burgeoning reputation for being a sport city and is home to a number of world class facilities – including the very best in Hillsborough Leisure Centre.”
To reach the final three, the centre was subject to a rigorous examination process to ensure they meet FIA best practice, a site visit from FLAME assessors and had to provide key data about the venue including people management, customer processes and impact on society.
An independent market research company visited Hillsborough in August to complete a customer satisfaction survey.
Steve Brailey, chief executive of SIV said: “These awards are testament to the dedication and skills of all of the team at Hillsborough who are fully committed to the efficient running of the venue and providing the highest possible levels of customer service, an ethos that is echoed at all our venues.”
