Hillsborough Leisure Centre visitors don’t usually want to see the doctor after going to the gym, but they were queuing up to check their machines are well-oiled and running smoothly!
Dr Bike was on hand outside the venue to carry out bike safety checks for hundreds of customers as part of National Bike Week.
Dr Bike, AKA Alan Moffat from Pedal Ready, also made minor adjustments and gave advice on where to go for more complex problems.
Pedal Ready, in conjunction with Sheffield City Council, will also be on hand at the venue throughout the summer, on July 28 and August 25 at 8am – 1pm.
Hillsborough Leisure Centre was voted best leisure centre in the UK for the four years running and has has been shortlisted for the same award in the Fitness Industry Association’s FLAME Awards 2010. The facility has more than 5,500 members to its Fitness Unlimited gym.
Hillsborough Leisure Centre’s assistant operations manager Dave Hudson had his bike checked. He said: “I was a bit wary about what Dr Bike would find wrong with my bike but thankfully it’s in good shape!
“I often cycle to work and enjoy getting out on my bike so it’s great that this service is available for me and the rest of Sheffield. Hopefully it will encourage more people to get their bikes out of their shed and get pedalling as Hillsborough is all about getting people active and healthy.”
