| Who is Mad Dog?
Mad Dog came to Hillsborough Leisure Centre as a Cool Dude 4 years ago as a young pup. After hanging around the Beach, surfing for 2 years Mad Dog heard about the Treasure of Redbeard the Merciless and began training hard to become one of the best pirates ever seen.
He set sail on his new ship ‘The Mad Dog’ to find the Treasure. 2 Years ago Pirate Mad Dog returned and dropped anchor of the Mad Dog Pirate Ship at the Beach at Hillsborough Leisure Centre after discovering Redbeard’s treasure was already hidden somewhere in the centre…
Who is Redbeard?
Redbeard the Merciless is one of the most feared and gruesome pirates to have ever sailed the high seas! After years of tormenting the pirate land and stealing the gold from his enemies he mysteriously vanished. Legend of his lost gold reached all shores and hundreds of pirates set out to capture the riches.
Mad Dog found the secret map that pointed towards where Redbeards treasure was hidden – Hillsborough Leisure Centre. As he began to search for the gold Mad Dog unknowingly freed Redbeard from his mysterious curse and the Merciless Captain is now roaming The Beach and will do anything to stop Mad Dog finding his gold.
Join The Treasure Hunt
Our Swashbuckling Adventure treasure hunts available from only £3 per person.
For this you receive 45 minute treasure hunt, 1 hour leisure swim session, Prize for the winning team and a chance to meet Mad Dog & Redbeard.
A minimum of 10 people are required and these are mainly aimed towards schools, but any individuals or smaller groups interested can enter a waiting list by contacting Nat Briggs on 0114 231 8129 or emailing n.briggs@sivltd.com and they will be contacted when we have enough people to run a treasure hunt.

Mad Dog & Redbeard compete in the Mascot Gold Cup
Click the links to see video footage of Mad Dog & Redbeard competing in the 2008 Mascot Gold Cup race at Whetherby Race Course. The swashbuckling duo entered the race as part of a month long fundraising frenzy to raise fund for Sue Ryder Care.
Other activities included a 1-mile cycle challenge and the ladies only midnight walk which took place at the centre.
